Want to make this recipe dairy free? First – read your sauce and bun labels! You’d be astounded how many things have dairy in them that you’d never expect! Second, choose a yummy, melty dairy free cheese! I have tried a LOT and these So Delicious Dairy Free Shreds are BY FAR my current favorite!
Quick & Easy Baked Meatball Subs (with Dairy Free Substitute)

Pre-cooked homemade or frozen meatballs
Your favorite jarred or canned spaghetti sauce
Mini Sub Buns
Provolone Cheese slices or Dairy Free Mozzarella Shreds
Directions
- Preheat Oven to 450 degrees. Cover a glass 13×9 glass baking dish with foil
- Dump frozen meatballs in a pot with sauce and warm until meatballs are heated through.
- Press open the sub buns without breaking the bottom seam
- Place slice of cheese (or dairy free cheese shreds) in the bun. Spread small spoonsful of sauce, and then fill with desired amount of meatballs. Arrange subs in baking dish. Cover subs with additional cheese slices or shreds.
- Cook on middle oven rack for 10 minutes, or until cheese is melted and sub tops are toasty. Briefly let cool before serving.
